Day 2 – Clan MacDougall, Glencoe & Return Journey

After breakfast, we explore the rugged coastline and dramatic glens that shaped Scotland’s clan history.

Highlights:

 

  • Dunollie Castle or Dunstaffnage Castle — discover the medieval strongholds of Clan MacDougall

  • Glencoe — visit the village and the most atmospheric valley in Scotland, Glen Coe, also known as the 'Valley of the Weeping'

  • Rannoch Moor — a vast, post-glacial wilderness of peat bogs, lochans, and sweeping Highland views

  • Stirling Castle & Royal Palace — Scotland's most grand royal castle overlooking Stirling Bridge, site of William Wallace's famous victory over a superior English army

  • Return to Edinburgh or Glasgow

Optional Day – Mull and Iona: Isles, Clan MacLean Castles & Coastal Adventures

Extend your tour to dive deeper into Argyllshire’s landscapes and island culture with a day trip to Mull and Iona.

  • ​Duart Castle — visit the beautifully restored curtain walled ancestral home of Clan MacLean ​​

  • Tobermory — take a trip up Mull's east coast to the island's charming, colourful capital of Tobermory

  • Iona — birthplace of Celtic Christianity, Iona's famous abbey has been a place of pilgrimage for nearly 1,500 years

  • Fingal's Cave and the Treshnish Islands — take a half-day boat trip to the incredible Fingal's Cave and visit the puffins on the volcanic islands west of Mull (seasonal)

The ferry crossings to Mull and Iona are a highlight of any trip, offering breathtaking views and the chance to glimpse the many whale and dolphin species that frequent the Hebridean waters during the summer.

Spend Night 2 on Mull or Iona, or head back to Oban in the late afternoon.

Optional Day – Ardnamurchan Peninsula: Wildlife, West Coast Villages & Scenic Routes
