Scottish Borders Tour

Private tours from Edinburgh to the Scottish Borders allows you to explore the rolling hills to the north of the Scotland - England border, a region alive with the history of the Wars of Independence, the covenanters and the cattle thieves known as the Border Reivers. Ideal as a day trip from Edinburgh or Glasgow, or make it a two or three day tour to really immerse yourself in the area. No tour of the Borders would be complete without a visit to at least one of the famous abbeys, Dryburgh, Melrose, Kelso and Jedburgh, destroyed by retreating English armies during the wars of the 13th and 14th centuries, rebuilt and then left to ruin following the Protestant Reformation of the 17th century . Other important historical sites in the area include Floors Castle, Edin's Hall iron age broch and Greenknowe Tower. The picturesque small towns of Melrose, North Berwick, Peebles and Eyemouth are all worthy of a visit in their own right. For wildlife enthusiasts the craggy, volcanic cliffs of St Abb's Head National Nature Reserve, Ettrick Marshes and Duns Castle Nature Reserve are all a bird watchers paradise.

The Scottish Borders is a year round destination. It is not a region that gets overrun with tourists and even in peak summer season the roads can be fairly empty. Spring sees mainly dry sunny days in the area, whilst Autumn can be spectacular in the many forests and woods. The temperate climate ensures that winter tours are rarely threatened by ice or snow, which is usually restricted to the highest hills.

The Borders region of Scotland is a charming area, representing just 2% of the nation's population. Predominantly rural, it features a collection of small towns and villages, with Hawick and Galashiels standing out as the only locations boasting populations exceeding 10,000. It's serene landscapes and tight-knit communities offer a unique glimpse into Scotland's Lowland heritage.
